Western Sydney University appoints new PVC Quality and Integrity
Western Sydney University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Cath Ellis as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Quality and Integrity.
One of the world’s leading experts on academic integrity and contract cheating, Professor Ellis’ higher education experience spans educational strategy, academic governance, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance and enhancement.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Maryanne Dever warmly congratulated Professor Ellis on her appointment.
“Cath Ellis is recognised as a leading higher education researcher and a well-respected sector commentator who has held various positions at universities in both Australia and the United Kingdom,” said Professor Dever.
“In 2019 the Times Higher Education named Professor Ellis as one of their People of the Year for her work on issues of academic integrity and contract cheating. That same year she was awarded the Principal Fellowship by Advance HE.
“She also works regularly with the Australian Government’s Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) on their masterclasses on topics including detecting and investigating contract cheating.”
As PVC Quality and Integrity, Professor Ellis will work closely with the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, Learning and Teaching, Professor Brian Stout, together with the Divisional leadership team to deliver on strategic objectives and support the broader learning and teaching community.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Professor Ellis and welcoming her to our team,” said Professor Dever.
Professor Ellis has previously held positions at the University of Wollongong, University of Huddersfield in the UK, the University of Sydney, and UNSW.
She will officially commence with Western Sydney University on 11 November 2024.
