Western Sydney University appoints new Dean of Business
Western Sydney University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Hind Benbya as the Dean of the School of Business.
Professor Benbya is currently Founding Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future of Business at Deakin University, where she more recently served as the Head of School of Information Systems and Business Analytics.
Prior to that she has held various leadership positions at universities in Europe, and held Professorial visiting positions at the University of Oxford, Cambridge University and the UCLA Anderson Business School.
Professor Benbya will officially commence with the University on 3 March 2025.
University Provost, Professor Kevin Dunn, congratulated Professor Benbya on her appointment.
“Professor Benbya brings over 20 years of senior leadership experience in Australia and internationally across diverse research, engagement and education roles at the Faculty, School and Department level including Head of Faculty, Research Chair and Department Chair,” said Professor Dunn.
“She has delivered executive education and consulting services to numerous leading organisations in over ten countries across four continents. In addition, she is an Association for Information Systems (AIS) distinguished expert in IT-enabled transformation and innovation and her current research focuses on the implications of AI on work and organisations.
“We look forward to welcoming her to the University community in the new year.”
Professor Benbya said she is delighted to be taking up the role.
“It is a real privilege to join Western Sydney University as the next Dean of the School of Business in such a pivotal time of change and transformation,” she said.
“I look forward to partnering with faculty, staff, alumni, and industry to create transformational education experiences for our students, while cultivating exceptional possibilities for our community and making a positive real-world impact with our research.”
Professor Benbya’s work has appeared in major academic and practitioner journals, including MIS Quarterly, the Journal of Management Information Systems, MIT Sloan Management Review and she is the recipient of several research excellence awards.
Professor Benbya also currently holds key editorial positions, as Senior Editor for MIS Quarterly Executive and the Journal of the Association of Information Systems, whilst also serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems.
Professor Dunn took the opportunity to also acknowledge and express the University’s thanks to Professor Meg Smith, who has been Interim Dean for the School of Business for the past year.
“Meg has been a committed and spirited advocate for the School, leading significant initiatives that will transform and position the School for future success,” said Professor Dunn.
