Welcome Week blooms with Western Sydney University’s Spring Fair

Western Sydney University is warmly welcoming thousands of new and continuing students to connect with each other and transition into university life ahead of the semester starting on 22 July.

Kicking off the festivities, the University's Parramatta South campus will come to life with the Spring Fair on Tuesday 16 July.

Taking place from 10am-3pm, students will have the opportunity to network with the University community, enjoy BBQs and food stalls, as well as engage with over 40 student groups, University department stallholders, and a variety of community partners.

There is plenty of fun planned for the day with live performances, speed friending sessions, live bingo with over $100 in prizes up for grabs, free hot chocolate and the chance to win one of 50 prize packs, featuring Western Sydney University Oodies, Frank Green water bottles and hoodies.

Students can learn more about the support on offer during welcome sessions with academics, student panels and information sessions.

The journey of higher education can bring many new experiences, and after experiencing it herself, Master of Planning student Shreya Shrestha recommends that all commencing students take advantage of the support services available to set themselves up for success.

“University life is very lively and vibrant. With the great number of student clubs and supportive services for students, it was much easier for me to settle in than I had expected initially as an international student, fresh to Australia,” she said.

“In my earliest days the student clubs helped me make my first friends here and they guided me to learn more about the University and made me feel like I had a support system and a community to lean on.

“Western Sydney University fosters growth and development and if you accept the support and are dedicated to yourself, you will achieve any goals you set your mind to.”

To discover the different study spaces available and how the library can enhance your study at university, there will be library tours taking place at the start of each hour from 11am-2pm.

There will also be a welcome dinner at the Parramatta South campus to close out Spring Fair from 6pm-7pm where all students are invited to join for a delicious dinner and the opportunity to meet their fellow peers.

On the day, students can also learn more about why, for the third year in a row, the University was ranked number one in the world for its social, ecological and economic impact by the prestigious Times Higher Education Impact rankings.

Students can discover the range of upcoming activities and events designed to help them meet friends and feel comfortable with university, by visiting and registering on the WESTERNLife platform.
