Master your future plan with mid-year enrolment

Master of Planning student, Shreya Shrestha, embraced the opportunity to work towards her future career and personal goals by commencing study at Western Sydney University as part of the mid-year in take.

After studying a Bachelor of Architecture in Nepal where her degree touched on urban planning, the 25-year-old wanted to expand on her knowledge of designing singular buildings to learn how to create and shape better places for people to live.

“I had heard good things about Western Sydney University firsthand from people that I knew, and it also offers good scholarships for international students,” she said.

“Designing for sustainability and for the planet is my main passion point with urban planning, and the University’s course structure being so current with emerging issues such as bushfires, sustainability and cool cities was so appealing to me.”

The journey of higher education can bring many new experiences and emotions, and after experiencing it herself, Shreya recommends that all commencing students explore the wide range of support on offer at the University.

“University life is very lively and vibrant. With the great number of student clubs and supportive services for students, it was much easier for me to settle in than I had expected initially as an international student, fresh to Australia.”

“In my earliest days the clubs helped me make my first friends here and they guided me to learn more about the University and made me feel like I had a support system and a community to lean on.

“I have used the peer-to-peer program, Western Success and the English Conversation Groups run by MATES, a peer mentoring program for commencing and first year students, with all the staff and facilitators being so friendly and easy to talk to.”

Treasurer of the Nepali Students at Western Sydney University club and recently joining the Sydney Planners Society club as an Executive Member, Shreya is excited to become a planner and urban designer once she graduates.

Currently studying at the Parramatta City campus, she believes anyone can pursue their dreams.

“Western Sydney University fosters growth and development and if you accept the support and are dedicated to yourself, you will achieve any goals you set your mind to.”
