Dr Joanne Orlando, from the School of Education and the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University, has been awarded the prestigious Engagement Australia Award for Outstanding Leadership in Engagement.
This national award acknowledges Dr Orlando’s exceptional contribution to enhancing online safety for children through evidence-based research.
It recognises individuals who have made notable contributions to engagement, going above and beyond that expected for their role, and resulting in sustained partnerships for longer-term impact.
Dr Orlando’s world-leading research has informed policy changes in government and big tech, with impacts at both national and local levels. Through public education initiatives and media engagement, Dr Orlando has helped transform public discourse on this critical issue.
Her research spans technology, education, children, and digital culture, exploring the potential of technology to enhance learning, shifting knowledge in the digital era, understanding digital family life, the impact of digital on childhood.
