2024 Fulbright scholars announced
As part of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship program, Western Sydney University is proud to host Eliza Joy Hallinan, a postgraduate student from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.
Additionally, Western Sydney University’s Professor Andrew Page from the Translational Health Research Institute has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award, to be hosted by the Center for Mind and Culture, and Boston University, as part of the exchange program.
Western Sydney University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO highlighted the importance of the Fulbright Scholarship program in strengthening research, cultural and educational ties between Australia and the United States.
“The University warmly welcomes Eliza and congratulates Professor Page as the latest ambassadors of the Fulbright program. This exchange provides a wonderful opportunity for the sharing of ideas and research skills, and the promotion of new cultural and educational experiences. Western Sydney University is proud of its long-standing involvement with the program,” said Professor Glover.
Eliza’s Fulbright research will see them engage with various cultural communities in Western Sydney to develop a podcast series about their first-hand experiences with immigration, the ways migration has shaped their perspectives and how multiculturalism manifests in storytelling.
Hosted by Western Sydney University, Eliza is looking forward to exploring and sharing dialogues about the state of multiculturalism and immigration in Australia.
Professor Andrew Page brings extensive research experience in epidemiology, psychology, and public health to the program he sets off for the United States to collaborate with international colleagues later this year to develop computational simulation models of suicidal behaviour to inform policy and prevention strategies.
The Fulbright Scholarship Program is the United States’ flagship foreign exchange scholarship program aimed at increasing cultural understanding, bilateral collaboration, and innovation.
First established in 1946, it has become the largest educational exchange program in the world, operating in more than 160 countries over the last 75 years.
