Western Sydney University welcomes new Chancellor, Professor Jennifer Westacott AO
Western Sydney University warmly welcomes Professor Jennifer Westacott AO as she officially commences her term as Chancellor of Western Sydney University.
Professor Westacott succeeds Professor Peter Shergold AC, who recently retired from the University after 12 years of exemplary service as Chancellor.
One of Australia’s most prominent and highly-regarded public figures who also serves as the chief executive of the Business Council of Australia, Professor Westacott is the University’s first female Chancellor and only the fourth Chancellor in the University’s history.
The University is pleased to accord Jennifer Westacott the title ‘Professor of Practice’, in recognition of her distinguished background and extensive professional experience and expertise forged from senior leadership roles across both the private and public sectors over 40 years.
Professor Westacott said she is pleased to officially commence as Chancellor.
“I am delighted to get to work and build on the great legacy left by Professor Shergold. I look forward to visiting more of the University over the weeks and months ahead, especially meeting with students and staff and being part of on-campus activities as an exciting new University year gets underway,” she said.
Acting Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Simon Barrie, said Professor Westacott shares Western Sydney University’s values and will be a passionate advocate for the University, its region and its people.
“We know Jennifer Westacott will be an exceptional leader for Western Sydney University, putting her indelible stamp on this next phase of its growth and development, as well as being a formidable force for equity, inclusion and positive social change,” said Professor Barrie.
“Together with the Board of Trustees and the broader University community we look forward to celebrating this new chapter in our history with Professor Westacott’s formal installation ceremony planned for 25 February, and beyond that, her first graduation ceremonies as Chancellor later in the year.”
