Western Sydney University celebrates International Women’s Day
Western Sydney University has celebrated International Women’s Day 2023 with a special event at the University’s Parramatta City campus held this week.
This year’s theme for International Women’s Day was #EmbraceEquity and after a number of years of celebrating the day online, students, staff and community partners were excited to have the opportunity to come together to recognise the achievements of women in person.
Delivering the keynote address this year was Ms Padma Raman PSM, Chief Executive Office of Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS). A not-for-profit research organisation dedicated to providing evidence-based research aimed at supporting the reduction of violence against women and children.
Following the address there was a panel discussion chaired by Professor Deborah Sweeney, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Enterprise and International. Professor Sweeny was joined by a group of exceptional women including Professor Michelle Trudgett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership; Dr Vafa Ghazavi, Executive Director, Research and Policy; Dr Kieryn McKay, Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Project Coordinator; Associate Professor Freya MacMillan, School of Health Science; and Ms Raman.
Western Sydney University offers a wide range of supports and resources to assist students and staff to achieve equal access and opportunity across all aspects of their study and work.
