Western Sydney University appoints new Dean of Health Sciences
Western Sydney University is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Sarah Lewis as its new Dean of the School of Health Sciences.
A respected clinical radiographer, clinical academic and researcher, Professor Lewis joins the University from the University of Sydney where she is currently the Associate Dean of Research Performance for the Faculty of Medicine and Health.
She will officially commence her new role at the University in December taking over from Professor Gregory Kolt.
Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, Professor Clare Pollock welcomed Professor Lewis to Western Sydney University.
“A deeply committed researcher, leader and mentor, Professor Lewis will bring her extensive experience and multidisciplinary approach to the School of Health Sciences, including across research performance, innovation and strategy,” said Professor Pollock.
Professor Lewis, through her work is dedicated to improving the health service delivery of medical imaging, primarily related to cancers through novel digital technologies, workforce education and obesity.
She has attracted over $17 million in funding through competitive research grants and philanthropy for her breast cancer research and educational activities, including from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Commonwealth Department of Health and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Between 2014-18, she was the Examiner-in-Chief for the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA) and from 2016 to 2022 was the Deputy Chair of the MRPBA Accreditation Committee.
Professor Lewis said she looked forward to joining the School of Health Sciences and collaborating with new colleagues.
“The School of Health Sciences is delivering world-class research and education, with a strong commitment to community and industry engagement. I look forward to advancing this important work, which is having significant impact, particularly within the diverse communities of western Sydney,” said Professor Lewis.
Professor Pollock thanked Professor Kolt for his valued contributions during his time as Dean and Provost of the Campbelltown campus.
“Professor Kolt’s significant experience in university settings and expertise as a globally recognised researcher has greatly benefited the School of Health Sciences,” said Professor Pollock.
