Entrepreneur finds his studies to be the intersection of career and education goals
A few years after completing an undergraduate degree in Security, Terrorism and Counterterrorism, Clint Carver felt the need to enhance his skills and further his knowledge.
Motivated by a desire to start his own businesses, Clint made the decision to enrol in a Graduate Diploma in Start Up Scale Up, with Western Sydney University’s Sydney Graduate School of Management (SGSM).
“This experience proved invaluable and has prompted me to continue my educational pursuit. I am currently enrolled in a Graduate Diploma program, building upon the foundation I established during my previous studies,” said Clint.
The Graduate Diploma in Start Up Scale Up connects students and small-to-medium sized enterprises to the University’s business and technology incubator environment, Launch Pad. It allows them to learn fundamental business skills integral to starting a business or scaling a business and meet regional or global demands.
Students also benefit from the SGSM’s close connections to the business community in Greater Western Sydney, supporting the growth and development of small to medium enterprise in the region.
Currently running a small side business and having worked in his family business for most of his life, Clint naturally has a passion for the ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ which the course helped him explore.
“It was for this reason I decided to enrol at SGSM; to upskill my knowledge and abilities in business management to achieve my goal of starting another business, but a business that I can scale into something big.”
“SGSM serves as an intersection for both my career and education goals.”
Educationally, Clint’s objectives revolve around acquiring new skills that can be applied across various business fields, aligning with his goal of launching his own venture.
“Through my studies, I am equipping myself with the necessary knowledge and competencies to not only succeed in any business setting, but also lay the foundation for achieving my goal of becoming an entrepreneur.”
Reflecting on his SGSM experience, Clint has found his studies to be supportive of his lifestyle and existing commitments.
“From my side business, full-time employment, defence force commitments, weekend sport, and community volunteering, SGSM has been extremely flexible.”
“The staff have always been approachable, friendly, and most importantly, incredibly supportive.”
“I continue to learn new skills that are applicable and transferable in the workplace.”
