Western Sydney University recognised as leader in gender equality
Western Sydney University has been recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for the 18th year.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, said the citation reflected the University’s long-standing and ongoing commitment as a global leader in gender equality.
“Western Sydney University is committed to providing an innovative, inclusive and fair culture that celebrates and champions women who, through their studies, work and research, contribute so much to our community,” said Professor Glover.
“To support women to excel in their careers, the University is working to promote workplace flexibility, increase the number of women in leadership roles and reduce the gender pay gap as part of our Gender Equity Strategy and Plan.”
The University’s Gender Equity Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2026 (opens in a new window) recognises the diversity of the Greater Western Sydney community, including Indigenous and cultural knowledge, and provides a holistic framework for leadership, career development and success, and overall culture.
The plan is supported by a range of initiatives, including the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) program which promotes gender equity and gender diversity in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM), for which the University was awarded the prestigious Athena Swann Bronze medal in 2020.
The University was recognised as third in the world for Gender Equality and fourth for reducing inequalities by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021.
