Statement from Western Sydney University in support of the People of Ukraine

Western Sydney University stands in concert with the international community in condemning the unprovoked attack against Ukraine by Russia and affirm that the people of Ukraine have the right to freedom, self-determination and access to education. Our deepest sympathy is extended to all those who have been affected by these tragic events, wherever they are in the world.

The University stands with the people of Ukraine as well as those within the Russian Federation and Belarus who are bravely opposing these acts of violence.

The University has suspended all ties and activities with Russian universities and institutions effective immediately.

Furthermore, the University acknowledges the stress and difficulties being endured as a result of these events by many of our students, staff and members of the communities that we serve. The University has and will continue to offer support to these communities and individuals.

Students and staff here and overseas who have connections with Ukraine or Russia are being contacted and connected as appropriate with support services.

As a University with a diverse multicultural community we recognise that others who have experienced war or oppression may also need additional support at this time and we urge them to connect with support services if needed.
