Professor Barney Glover elected to Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities

Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, has been elected to the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

Professor Glover is one of six vice-chancellors from around the world recently elected to the ACU’s governing body, following a competitive nomination and election process.

Joining Professor Glover as new members of the ACU Council are:

Their term as Council members is from 1 August 2022 until 31 July 2025.

Dr Joanna Newman, ACU Chief Executive and Secretary General, commented on the new appointments.

“I am delighted to welcome these new members to the ACU’s Council, who represent the diversity and vast expertise of our global network of members. Bringing their collective experience leading some of the world’s most innovative universities, our Council members contribute a vast wealth of perspectives and insights to drive the strategic direction of the ACU for the benefit of our members. I look forward to working with our new Council members to further drive the success of the ACU’s programmes and initiatives, tackle global challenges and continue to advance the role of higher education across the Commonwealth,” Dr Newman said.

Professor Cheryl de la Rey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and Chair of ACU Council, also added her congratulations.

“As Chair I am pleased to welcome our new Council members, representing the diversity of leaders across the ACU network. I look forward to supporting the executive team and working with other trustees to ensure good governance. From furthering access to higher education through innovative blended learning programmes to expanding international mobility opportunities through virtual and physical modalities – I am eager to see what the ACU can achieve as a global community in the years ahead.”

The ACU is an international organisation dedicated to building a better world through higher education, bringing together universities from around the globe and championing higher education as a cornerstone of stronger societies.

The ACU Council is made up of vice-chancellors from across the Commonwealth, who are elected by their peers within the ACU membership network.
