Western Sydney University appoints Pro Vice-Chancellor, Strategy, Government and Alliances
Western Sydney University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Andy Marks as its new Pro Vice-Chancellor, Strategy, Government and Alliances.
In this role, Professor Marks will lead the University’s government relations and advocacy initiatives and key collaborations with industry and the community. This includes driving major partnerships with peak bodies, advocacy groups, alliances and networks.
Professor Marks will also be responsible for key portfolios such as the University’s Centre for Western Sydney and ‘Western Sydney Creative’, the University’s arts and culture decadal strategy, to enhance support for the arts and cultural sector across the region.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, warmly welcomed Professor Marks’ appointment.
“Joining the University in 2012, Professor Marks has delivered transformative collaborations for the University and our region, particularly during the challenging and complex circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Professor Glover.
“He has been instrumental in developing the University’s suite of decadal plans, particularly, Flight Path, the University’s strategy for Western Sydney’s new airport and Aerotropolis. His high-profile media advocacy for our region has proven particularly impactful in building recognition of its strengths, challenges and centrality to the national interest.”
“We look forward to Andy developing this important work as Pro Vice-Chancellor and expanding his already impressive commitment to the University and the region. This role will complement his wider collaborative agenda as Chief Executive Officer of the NUW Alliance grouping of the University of Newcastle, the University of Wollongong, UNSW and Western Sydney University; and as Director of the Centre for Western Sydney.”
Professor Marks said he is looking forward to furthering the University’s strategic and collaborative objectives at a critical time for higher education and the Western Sydney region.
“Western Sydney is a wonderfully dynamic and vibrant place. In recent months, the residents of this region have proven yet again how diversity, compassion and resilience are their greatest assets. Those attributes will be pivotal in coming years as we chart our way through uncertain challenges and exciting opportunities”, said Professor Marks.
