Research Week to uncover bold research futures
Western Sydney University will showcase the impact of its world-class research as part of this year’s Research Week from Monday 25 to Friday 29 October.
Research Week will highlight the innovative research happening across the University, inviting the community to learn about the ground-breaking projects that are addressing society’s most pressing challenges and having real-world impact, both in Greater Western Sydney and globally.
Among the seminars representing this year’s theme ‘bold research futures’, is an exploration of wicked urban problems facing Western Sydney, a look into traumatic stress and resilience research, and a discussion about communication, technology and collaboration in healthcare.
Professor Deborah Sweeney, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research, Enterprise and International) said Western Sydney University was proud to be a world-leading research and learning institution.
“The University is committed to research excellence and Research Week is an opportunity to hear from our leading researchers and academics, including many who are working tirelessly to study and support the pandemic response,” said Professor Sweeney.
“The initiative is also an important opportunity to connect with our staff, students, partners and the broader community to demonstrate the impact of our research on the region we serve.”
In a highlight of the week, Director of Indigenous Research Professor Gawaian Bodkin-Andrews, together with guest speaker Professor Bronwyn Carlson from Macquarie University, will explore Indigenous research at Western Sydney University.
As part of the annual Research Impact Competition, talented early to mid-career academics will present their research in three minutes to demonstrate the positive impact of their work to the community.
The week will also feature a range of interactive seminars and presentations covering new research findings, innovations and partnerships, including from across the health, education, environment and society disciplines.
