The Australian Council of Deans of Education elects new president

Dean of Education at Western Sydney University, Professor Michele Simons, has been elected as President of The Australian Council of Deans of Education (ACDE) for the next two years.

Professor Simons previously held the role of Deputy President of the ACDE. She has extensive experience in supporting learning in the fields of adult education, vocational education and workplace learning, and secondary teacher education programs. As a leading education researcher, she has won several nationally competitive grants from the Australian Research Council and the National Vocational Education and Training Research and Evaluation Program.

In accepting her new position, Professor Simons acknowledged the vital role teachers have played this year, with many educators stepping up, and demonstrating resilience, care and leadership throughout COVID.

“From early childhood through to higher education settings, educators have demonstrated remarkable adaptability in finding new ways to sustain learning for all their students,” said Professor Simons.

“I am looking forward to leading ACDE as we forge partnerships with providers, regulators and employers, to ensure that we have an education system that can work for all learners regardless of their personal background or circumstances.”

The Australian Council of Deans of Education informs policies, strategies, conversations and research in higher education, particularly teacher education. The Council works to ensure that Australia produces teacher graduates of the highest quality who are well equipped to work in a wide range of education-related workplaces and occupations.
