Course Frequently Asked Questions

Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) is an accredited four year program which is inclusive of the Honours component (final year) for students who meet the academic threshold.

Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) and Bachelor of Arts (with a key program in Psychology) are three year accredited degrees that contain the foundational studies in Psychology and combine different areas of study across the Social Sciences and Arts. Students who wish to pursue further studies in Psychology will need to apply for the Honours year (fourth year) separately.

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) course duration is four years full-time or eight years part-time.

Entry into the School's APAC-accredited Bachelor of Psychological Studies (Honours) is limited to students who have completed the following courses at Western Sydney University in the last 10 years:

  • Bachelor of Psychological Studies
  • Bachelor of Social Sciences (Psychology)
  • Graduate Diploma of Psychological Studies
  • Bachelor of Arts with a Key Program in Psychology
  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws with a Key Program in Psychology

This degree is not open to applicants who completed their accredited psychology degree at an institution other than Western Sydney University. In addition, entry into Honours may be restricted by supervisory capacity. Eligible students are selected in order of merit based on their Average Admission Mark of 70+ in Level 2 and 3 units.

The degree opens doors to psychology or research positions (with further study) in clinical, industrial, and organisational psychology, disability services, psychology and the law, media, and forensic psychology.

As a Western Sydney University graduate, you career opportunities are increased by the emphasis our program places on your experience as a student. Our Bachelor of Social Science aims to improve your engagement with the community through expanding links and networking opportunities. Graduates may pursue careers in a range of areas including the human services industry; as a case worker in areas of child protection, drug and alcohol services or community health; social advocacy and activism; research; or continue on to postgraduate study and become a qualified psychologist.

  1. Complete an Undergraduate Psychology Sequence (Bachelor degree, GD Psychology 3 years)
  2. 4th Year Psychology Studies (Honours/Postgraduate Diploma 1 Year)
  3. Accredited PG program (M. Professional Psychology, M. Clinical Psychology, Doctor of Philosophy/M. Clinical Psychology
