Adaptation to Novel Music Systems: Perceptual Learning of Musical Pitch and Timbre
This project aims to examine the adaptation to novel music systems in non-musicians by measuring their perceptual learning of musical pitch and timbre (including environmental sounds).
Listeners will be learning music systems with computer-generated microtonal tunings over experimental trials. We will also examine the influence of environmental sounds on learning and how well listeners could learn a timbral system composed with environmental sounds. Therefore, this project is interdisciplinary with the interests in both psychology and music creativity.
