MARCS: Research Scholarship

Western Sydney University accepts applications from current and new students for higher degree research scholarships. Domestic and international students are invited to apply.

Scholarships are released periodically throughout the year, and each release has specific application dates and eligibility criteria.

The information below outlines the requirements for each scholarship release. You should only submit an application for a release where you meet the eligibility criteria. You must review the frequently asked questions below as they include important information about how to apply. Due to the high volume of applications received, incomplete applications or those that do not conform to the requirements may not be assessed.

Domestic: 08 February 2021 or 26 April 2021

Who can apply?

Domestic applicants (Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and Australian Permanent Residents) and International applicants that meet the 'Academic Qualifications and Performance' criteria in Section 1 of the Guidelines for Ranking HDR Scholarships.(opens in new window)Opens in a new window

Applicants that already hold a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent qualification are excluded.

Applicants currently enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy or equivalent at Western Sydney University that have consumed more than one year of their candidature (1EFTSL) are excluded.

Scholarship inclusions:

Scholarships include a stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years.

Domestic candidates will be awarded a Research Training Program (RTP) funded place in the degree.

International candidates will be awarded a tuition fee waiver.

Scholarship exclusions:

Scholarships do not include an Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC)(opens in new window)Opens in a new window insurance policy. This cost must be covered by the student and is required for the duration of study in Australia.

Travel costs, relocation expenses and other expenses are not covered by the scholarship.

Additional criteria: Applicants must provide written evidence that a Western Sydney University academic has agreed to be Principal Supervisor on the project.
