Join us at the next MMM for a presentation by WSU Library aimed at Early- and Mid-Career Researchers. The presentation will outline the best approach for writing the Research Opportunity and Performance Evidence (ROPE) Statement for ARC grant applications.

Topic: Writing a track record statement
Speakers: Ria Hamblett and Karen Sheehy

Abstract: When writing a track record statement for grant applications you need to develop an evidence based argument that demonstrates your capacity to carry out the research project. This presentation from the Library will look at how to collate statistical and narrative information on your research activities and outputs, and how to arrange this information in a compelling narrative with data to underpin your claims. We will:

  • explain the metrics analytic tools the Library uses to gather and analyse your researcher metrics. An understanding of how these tools work and what they capture, can help inform your strategic publishing decisions.
  • discuss other sources of useful information/types of attention that provide evidence of your expertise.
  • outline the ARC’s definitions of research impact, output pathways and outcomes; and discuss the 3 key elements of communicating the ‘impact’ of your research.
  • provide advice on how to make a strong case that you/your research team is the ideal team for the grant, with a compelling narrative statement to appeal to the grant assessors.

Biographies: Ria Hamblett is the Library’s Research Engagement Coordinator, Outreach. She is responsible for supporting the School Librarians’ research related activities, as well as initiating University-wide research engagement and training opportunities.

Karen Sheehy is the Acting School librarian for the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development and the School of Science, and designated library contact for research, publication and teaching support
