Learning Futures understands that it can be challenging to find the time to attend workshops, so we have developed a set of asynchronous online learning modules that may be completed anywhere, anytime. The Professional Learning for Sessional Academics vUWS site offers a range of self-paced, online learning modules for Sessional Academic staff. Each module covers subject matter, including:
- assessment design
- student engagement
- online teaching & learning
- contemporary learning theories
- flipped classroom designs
- constructive curriculum alignment
- team teaching
- scaffolding and chunking learning
These modules are available to Sessional Academic staff*, having been developed to support Western Sydney University’s strategic priorities, taking into account feedback from our students about their learning experiences and feedback from staff on where guidance on teaching practice is most needed. The modules are organised into topics that are intended to support your ongoing teaching practice.
Each module, including the reflection activity, will take you approximately 3 hours to complete. You are only required to complete ONE module and submit the completion activity template to demonstrate completion of the module you have chosen to study.You can work through the module of your choice at your own pace and claim 3 hours payment**in total for completing ONE module of your choice as well as the completion activity. The module must be completed by the 22 October and before your current contract ends to ensure payment can be finalised.
Complete the registration form below if you would like to access the online modules through the Professional Learning for Sessional Academics vUWS site. Allow 24 hours for access to be enabled. You will receive a confirmation email once you have been given access to the vUWS site.

*Only Western Sydney University Sessional Academic staff with a current Spring 2021 contract are able to register and access the vUWS site.
**Once your template has been reviewed assessed as satisfactorily completed, HR will be provided with a confirmation to pay for 3 hours of professional learning. There is no option available for partial completion. Reminder: A maximum payment of up to 3 hours is capped per Sessional Academic Staff member as part of the 2021 Spring Session Learning Opportunities for Sessional Academic Staff guidelines.
