JUNE 2022

In 2021-2022, the 21C Project funded a pilot study involving the development of a new subject on digital literacies based on a partnership pedagogy model. Partnership pedagogy is representative of a heutagogical approach (i.e., student-centred) to subject development in which students partner with academics to develop teaching and learning resources, provide input on subject learning outcomes, and assist in the construction of assessment tasks.
Partnership models are gaining traction in higher education institutions in the UK, Europe, and the United States. Movements to partnership pedagogy are based on empowering students to choose subjects and course packages that are customised according to their own skills, strengths, interests, and needs. This is important given that university graduates in the 21st century are likely to have several different career paths over their working lives.
This presentation articulates the experiences of academics and postgraduate students in the School of Education who partnered together to develop a subject on digital literacies that addresses a current gap in the Master of Teaching program. The key learnings from both academic and student perspectives will be discussed. In addition, some learning materials developed during the project will be presented.
