The 21C Curriculum Project (opens in a new window) is reimagining Western Sydney University’s approach to teaching and learning to enable students to thrive in a complex and unpredictable future. To do so, it brings together diverse partners, including students, academics and other staff, alongside industry and community organisations, to change the way curriculum is designed, developed and delivered at Western.
Part of the 21C Project is the Global Leader Experience- a Smart and Inclusive Cities Curiosity Pod. This Pod supports students in developing creative and innovative solutions to the key challenges facing modern cities. In partnership with leading UK based company, Common Purpose (opens in a new window), this Curiosity Pod helps students develop the capabilities needed to solve complex problems in contemporary organisations within those cities.
This 21C Curiosity Pod addresses the need for universities to prepare students for global challenges and ensures that our local cities thrive in the contemporary world. The Global Leader Experience is an example of a cross-sector partnership; it demonstrates the meeting of minds from public, private and not-for-profit industries and aims to help advance the community of Western Sydney. With Western Sydney University as an anchor institution, the Global Leader Experience, through a mentored, immersive experience, offers students an innovative and inspiring way to engage with authentic problems to design ideas and strategies that may have real social impact.
What is a Curiosity Pod?
The Global Leader Experience is an example of Western Sydney University’s 21C Curiosity Pods – an exciting new curriculum element aimed at promoting cross disciplinary collaboration and creating flexible, agile and attractive learning experiences for our contemporary student cohort. They provide opportunities for students to develop skills, capabilities and understandings relevant to the needs of the future of work and utilise partnership pedagogies
What else is being developed?
The Global Leader Experience also enacts Partnership Pedagogy, a new collaborative and inclusive approach to thinking about teaching and learning which brings together staff and students with industry and community partners in determining how, when, where and what we study at university.
