School of Law

Message from the Dean

A warm welcome to the School of Law at Western Sydney University.

Western is a dynamic and innovative university which has mad great strides in its relatively short history. We have 45,000 students and are ranked in the top 3% of universities worldwide. Western is a prestigious University that plays a significant role in the delivery of high quality education and ground-breaking research.

The School of Law is an integral part of the University. We are committed to, and have a reputation for excellence in research, teaching and community engagement at the local, national and international levels.

Our approach to legal education also emphasises social justice and professional practice, as we support our graduates to serve in their communities. As one example, we run the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic, located in the Parramatta Justice District, which provides students with the opportunity to get real world experience under the supervision of qualified solicitors. The Law School places great emphasis on the acquisition of legal knowledge and skills, including oral presentations moot courts, negotiations, interview skills and drafting work. Our students have had success in many national and international mooting and negotiation competitions, coached by Western Sydney Law School academics.

We have some remarkable academic staff who are all dedicated to educating our students to meet the undoubted challenges of the 21st Century. This is demonstrated in their research activities and, even more significantly, in the achievements of our students and alumni.

A law degree from Western Sydney Law School is fully accredited for admission to practice in NSW.

I look forward to meeting you and I hope that you will allow us to challenge and stimulate your professional skills as you study and research cutting-edge legal principles at Western Sydney Law School.
