Club Liverpool

The John Edmondson V.C. Memorial Club (Club Liverpool) has been established since the 19th July 1947. The Club was named after Corporal Jack (John) Edmondson of the 2/17th A.I.F Battalion, the first Australian serviceman awarded the Victoria Cross during World War II. Jack Edmondson (1914-1941) was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, later moving to Liverpool. He enlisted in the AIF and was promoted to corporal soon afterwards. His battalion embarked for the Middle East in October 1940 and he trained in Palestine. In April 1941 at Tobruk, Edmondson charged a German position, advancing under heavy machine gun fire and, although wounded in the neck and stomach, his actions saved the life of his platoon commander. He later died of his wounds soon after the German attack was defeated. His award citation noted that Edmondson's actions during the operation "were outstanding for resolution, leadership and conspicuous bravery".

Club Liverpool is located in the heart of the Liverpool CBD on the Macquarie Street mall, just a short walk to the Western Sydney University Liverpool Campus. Club Liverpool is proud to support a range of community groups and charities through the Club Grants Scheme.
