Cynthia Fernandez RoichAs a Research Officer, Cynthia’s role covers the spectrum of operational activities relating to research projects, contract research and consultancies at ICS. Cynthia also offers research support to projects and assists with research development.

Dr Cynthia Fernandez Roich joined ICS as Research Officer in November 2018. Cynthia grew up in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and has been living in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland for the past 10 years. She has an PhD in Criminology from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and an MA in Journalism from the University of San Andres (UoSA). She has taught in University Technology Sydney (UTS) and Western Sydney University On line. Furthermore, she has worked in a variety of research projects for RMIT, University of Melbourne, The University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and Massey University. Beyond academia she has been a certified Restorative Justice Facilitator to Restorative Practices Aotearoa, and a committed staff at the Department of Corrections NZ to make a difference in young offender’s lives. She published her first book Media and Crime in Argentina’ with Palgrave MacMillan in 2017 (opens in a new window).

Responsibilities

Cynthia’s responsibilities include:

  • Provision of project management and financial advice for individual research projects
  • Administrative support for Research Director
  • Assistance with research development activities, including information on funding opportunities and development of funding applications
  • Assistance with research program activities and reporting
  • Administration of Human Ethics applications
  • Assistance with research projects under the direction of Principal Researchers.
