Dr Shanthi Robertson Awarded Raewyn Connell Prize

Congratulations to Dr Shanthi Robertson who has been awarded the 2014 Raewyn Connell Prize, a biennial prize for the best first book by an author in Australian Sociology. The prize was awarded at The Australian Sociological Association (TASA) conference dinner in Adelaide last night.

Shanthi's book, Transnational student-migrants and the state: the education-migration nexus (opens in a new window)(Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), examines student-migrants in terms of their transnationalism and their relationship to the state, and provides a detailed overview of policy development in concert with an analysis of student-migrant lived experience.

The prize (opens in a new window)honours the work of Professor Raewyn Connell (opens in a new window)in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Australian Sociology, in particular, to sociological theory and research, and Raewyn's support and encouragement of sociologists at the beginning of their careers. It is funded equally by TASA and a gift from Raewyn.
