Congratulations to Professor Corrinne Sullivan for being honoured as Indigenous Person of the Year at the inaugural Western Sydney University NAIDOC Awards 2024!

As an Aboriginal scholar from the Wiradjuri Nation in Central-West New South Wales and Associate Dean of Indigenous Education at the School of Social Sciences at Western, Corrinne has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Indigenous LGBTIQ+ people’s social and emotional well-being in urban spaces. Her expertise in Indigenous education, particularly in curriculum and pedagogy development, has led to significant contributions to government policy, institutional practice, and community-based services and resources.

Corrinne was one of the driving forces behind the Dalarinji, Your Story project which launched in 2019 and aimed at enhancing the social, economic, mental, physical, and cultural well-being of Indigenous people. The Dalarinji project has been featured in the most recent issue of the Future Makers magazine. During a span of three years, the team conducted in-depth interviews, a small community survey, and a series of workshops that helped centre and amplify Indigenous voices for positive change. Consequently, their research has yielded multiple interdisciplinary journal articles, a state-wide roadmap guiding future service delivery, two community reports, and an international symposium to present their findings. You can read the summary article here.

Congratulations Corrinne on this recognition of your work and congratulations to all the other nominees and winners from the evening.
