Alana Lentin a Panellist of the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival

ICS researcher Associate Professor Alana Lentin will be on a panel discussing the documentary film Evaporating Borders at the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival in Melbourne on Monday 11 May.

Evaporating Borders centres on Cyprus, one of the easiest entry points into the European Union and a popular final destination for refugees escaping countries around the Mediterranean. The film explores why asylum seekers are not welcomed by native Cypriots and why antipathy and aggression towards these new citizens is tearing an already divided nation.

Taking Cyprus as a starting point, the post-film panel will centre on the vast movement of refugees, the resultant antipathy and possible solutions.

Other panellists include Professor Desmond Cahill, Angela Mitropoulos and Denise Ryan.
