Lithgow Just Transition Hub Workshop

Dates: Thursday 23 May - Friday 24 May 2019

Time: 10:00am-4:30pm

Location: Western Sydney University, Lithgow Campus (Corner Mort St and Bridge St, Lithgow)

Lithgow is facing immense change. Industries are in transition, with legacy industries continuing alongside growing and emerging industries. The city and region are blessed with rich natural, cultural, and industrial heritage. Lithgow’s location amidst that heritage and between the east and west of the State makes it a prime site for future population growth and economic diversification.

These factors present an ideal opportunity to engage creatively with how Lithgow can establish and undertake processes of economic transition that enable the people and places of Lithgow to thrive – a Just Transition.

This two-day workshop will bring together community, industry, government, schools, and the University to create the framework for a Just Transition Hub on the University’s Mort Street site, in light of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop is an opportunity to think big, laterally, and creatively, and will be hands-on. Participants will collaborate to:

  • identify core current and emerging issues in Lithgow, with a focus on economic transition, and social and environmental justice
  • brainstorm practical and aspirational responses to those issues
  • identify working groups, activities, and events that can implement those responses
  • propose operational parameters and objectives for a Just Transition Hub based in the Mort St site and to be developed through those groups, activities, and events

Please note, participation in the workshop is via invite only.
