Lecturer in Neuromorphic Engineering
Dr Bharath Ramesh joined ICNS in Aug 2020 as a Lecturer in Neuromorphic Engineering. His research aims to develop low-latency neuromorphic systems with solid grounding in vision and perception theory. Alongside research, his prior teaching and mentoring experience paves the way for formal classroom settings at Western Sydney University.
Bharath was born in the vibrant city of Chennai, deep down south of the Indian subcontinent, and spent two decades with the heartfelt, amicable people of Chennai. Having lived more than a decade in splendid Singapore afterwards, Bharath considers himself a global citizen and resonate with the words of the posthumously famous Tamil poet Kaniyan: "To us all cities are our own, everyone our kin"
His journey into science and engineering has been one of eliminating other career paths, leading to a series of natural decisions, to be privileged to enjoy and understand the world we share with other species. Before joining ICNS, Bharath was a senior research fellow and a principal investigator at the N.1 Institute for Health, formerly known as SINAPSE. Previously, he worked as a research scientist in Temasek Laboratories @ NUS. Before that he was a Research Fellow in Control and Simulation Lab under the uplifting supervision of his PhD advisor Dr. Xiang Cheng.
Apart from research and academics, Bharath enjoys reading the convoluted history of the Indian subcontinent and its often misunderstood ways to preserve culture & religion. He considers himself an ardent student of the historical Buddha, who opened the floodgates to fearless inquiry into religious authority some 2600 years back, and of course practitioners who have preserved his timeless teachings. As a mindfulness practitioner for over a decade, Bharath gratefully tries to integrate it into every aspect of his life and social interactions.
