Exploring Space Situational Awareness with Neuromorphic Event-Based Sensors
The aim of our project is to build a novel Space Situational Awareness system for satellite imaging, ranging and tracking using neuromorphic event-based cameras. We will investigate the possibilities of this novel event-based imaging paradigm and explore the nature of these sensors to gain a deeper understanding of their capabilities.
Through this project we will continue the efforts of the BENS group to characterise these sensors for astronomy and SSA to enable use in other fields. Using this research, we aim to enhance SSA with this new imaging technique by determining the trajectory and identity of orbiting objects stereoscopically from three pre-established telescopic stations. Successful
implementation on the M2 Cube Satellite missions will introduce an additional avenue of investigation with these sensors used in an orbit-based SSA system.
