Developing a communication plan for your research using media/social media Presented by Professor Hannah Dahlen

This 1.5 hour workshop will be for anyone with an interest in how to get your research into the public domain using media/social to do so. How do you develop a research communication plan to increase citations and impact or even get participants in the first place?

Hannah Dahlen (SONM - Professor of Midwifery, Associate Dean Research and HDR, Discipline Lead Midwifery) has engaged with social media for research, politics and personal interest for the past decade and watched her research impact and citations rise as a result. She has over 10K followers on Twitter and manages several Facebook and Instagram accounts. She is one of the top Conversation authors at WSU, publishing over 40 Conversation articles. She has become adept at developing a communication plan for her research to increase impact and citations and even recruitment. This may have even played a role in her recently awarded Queen’s Birthday Honour. She has also been able to develop a significant professional political and media presence through this medium. She recently put out a national COVID-19 survey using social media and media strategies and received over 3000 responses in one week.

Come along and learn some tips. We can no longer sit back and hope our research rises to the surface and gets noticed. Increasingly indices such as % of journal articles in the Top 10% most cited worldwide, numbers of citations and FWCI are being used to measure research outcomes and impact. We are in a brave new world whether we like it or not. It can actually be very exciting to engage in communicating your research once you know how to do it and once you see it begin to work for you.
