Description

The School of Law Research Seminar presented by HDR student Simon Levett is on 'A Digital Stamp: a Potential Game-Changer for the War Correspondent'. The seminar will canvas research findings from interviews conducted in Australia, Israel and the Palestinian Territories in 2018 and 2019 with media experts and media professionals. In a changing international media landscape from Jerusalem to Ramallah, the public are increasingly utilising tools such as Twitter that do not follow the traditional canons of journalism such as reliability and accuracy. Simon is undertaking his PhD in International Law at the School of Law at Western Sydney University on the protection of war correspondents in International Law. In 2018 and 2019, Simon undertook interviews with war correspondents in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in Australia, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in Israel and Ramallah in the Palestinian Territories. He has also worked for the United Nations Office for the High Commissioner of Human Rights, the International Development Law Organisation and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.
