Time: 9am to 5pm dailyThe Dangerous Consumptions Colloquium is an Australian and New Zealand event that has been running annually (barring COVID) for two decades. It has been hosted at universities in both Australian Zealand. The Colloquium invites researchers (as well as stakeholders and community groups) who take a cultural and critical social perspective to a diverse range of topics including alcohol, drug use, mass media and popular culture, gambling, the Internet and social media, harm reduction, fossil fuels, pharmaceuticals, public health policy, and more. The underlying theme is, as the name suggests, investigating and critiquing dangerous forms of consumption and associated practices, harms, and policy responses.
The colloquium is run over two days with only a single stream of papers (there are no concurrent sessions). This gives participants the opportunity to share ideas and understandings from research into a range of dangerous consumptions and from a range of theoretical perspectives.
Call for abstracts closes Monday, July 31, 2023.
The convenors invite abstracts of up to 250 words proposing papers for the colloquium. Abstracts should include the title of the proposed paper, the name and email address of author(s), and if applicable any institutional affiliation. Abstracts can address any aspect of dangerous consumption, with preference given to papers informed by a social theory perspective.
Please email your abstracts to Dr Ken Yates on k.yates@westernsydney.edu.au or Dr Ashlee Gore on a.gore@westernsydney.edu.au.
