Description

VENUE: In association with the 8th International Adventure Therapy Conference at ‘The Tops’ Stanwell Tops, NSW on Aug 31, 9.30-10.15am Editors, Tonia Gray (PhD) Centre for Educational Research WSU, and Denise Mitten (PhD)Prescott College USA are honored beyond belief that Dr Caldicott - a passionate icon of women’s perseverance and activism - will be with us to conduct the book launch.

With over 900 pages, this volume brings together unique knowledge and wisdom from women who have spent their lives as outdoor educators and leaders, in the Antipodes and/or North America, as well as Denmark, India, Japan, Norway, and the United Kingdom. It is a valuable addition to the field, and to education and leadership more broadly. This compilation examines the theory and practice of outdoor learning from a multitude of perspectives and experiences made available through the voices of more than 80 women, many of whom cover in excess of 30 years of life and career in the outdoors.

Dr. Caldicott leads with her passion and has pushed for over 50 years for a nuclear-free world. As an Australian physician, she dedicated her life to the health of the planet through activism. She has been awarded 21 honorary doctoral degrees and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling in 1985. Helen is the Founding President of ‘Physicians for Social Responsibility’ and named 'One of the Most Influential Women of the 20th Century' by the Smithsonian Institute. In the 1980s Sen. Edward Kennedy called her the First Lady of the Nuclear Freeze Movement. Her work is as relevant today as 50 years ago. Please put it on your calendars.
