Several of Linda Jaivin’s novels are set in China, including A Most Immoral Woman and The Empress Lover. In this seminar, she will talk about the inspiration, the research and the process of writing. She will also address the question: can anyone claim to ‘own’ the China story? Linda Jaivin is the author of eleven books, including seven novels. Her book-length fiction includes the international bestseller Eat Me; The Infernal Optimist, which is set in an Australian Immigration Detention Centre and was shortlisted for the Australian Literature Society Gold Medal; and her two ‘China novels’, A Most Immoral Woman and The Empress Lover. She is also a literary translator with a specialty in film subtitling. The dozens of films she has subtitled include Wong Kar Wai’s Grandmaster, Chen Kaige’s Farewell my Concubine and Legend of the Demon Cat, Zhang Yimou’s To Live and Dante Lam's Operation Red Sea.
