David Harland is our Institute Manager. He has extensive experience in project management and administration in the education sector. David worked as a Senior Administrative Officer in the curriculum branch Office of the Board of Studies NSW coordinating the development of over 62 Higher School Certificate syllabuses in more than 30 languages. He joined the tertiary sector in 2003 and has worked in the College deanery and office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) as Executive Officer. David completed a PhD in 2008 on type history and the affective value of the typographic letterform.
His current position is responsible for providing support to the Director, Director of Research and Chief Scientist by managing the Institute's financial, physical and human resources. David is also responsible for the development and management of high quality administrative and technical infrastructure to support research and research training, and engagement activities.
The responsibilities of the Institute Manager relate to the Institute and its academic and general staff, and postgraduate students. As Institute Manager, David:
- manages the financial, physical and human resources of the Institute within the operational and policy frameworks of the Institute and the University;
- develops and manages effective systems, standards, processes and resources particular to the Institute;
- administers the operational management of a large number of new employees, academic and professional, who are expected to populate the Institute over the next three years.
