EucFACE

What's up with those cages near the Hawkesbury Campus?

Dinosaur nurseries?

Dragon stables?

When we were constructing the EucFACE experiment in the forest at Hawkesbury, people often asked us if we were building a hardware store, or a supermarket, or some other substantial building in the middle of the forest.

Because of the permanence of the cranes that we use to take researchers and equipment to the top of the trees, it's fair that sometimes people wonder if we are still building something.

Well, are we? Maybe we are...

This event is your chance to hear what EucFACE is doing, what has been found, and most importantly whether the future of our forests under elevated CO2 in our air makes our planet's "lungs" future look safe and sound, or something else...

Please join us for talks followed by drinks and canapes at:

  • Date: Monday 23rd October
  • Time: 1.00pm
  • Venue: Western Sydney University, Victoria Road, Parramatta. Building EA.G.18 (LT01)

EucFACE Symposium Program

ItemTimeslot
1.00 - 1.20 Symposium commences
1.20 - 1.30 Opening words by Lead Scientist EucFACE - Prof David Ellsworth
1.30 - 2.00 Dr Pep Canadell (CSIRO) - Carbon cycling and climate change
2.00 - 2.25 Experimental Overview by Prof David Ellsworth
2.25 - 2.45 How EucFACE contributes data to global climate models
2.45- 3.05 The Biodiversity of life in the EucFACE forest soils and interactions between plants, microbes and animals
3.05 - 3.35 Tea Break Time
3.35 - 3.55 The Role of Invertebrates at EucFACE
3.55 - 4.15 The Rich Story of The Understorey Vegetation
4.15 - 4.25 Closure - invitation for poster session
4.25 - 6.00 Drinks and nibbles + poster session

The Poster Session is your chance to view a range of scientific findings emerging from this unique experiment. There have been some compelling findings already from EucFACE including effects on insect diversity, the vital role of water relative to CO2, and the absolutely crucial role that nutrients play in drawing down and storing carbon from the air into plant material.
