Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculator

What is a Cumulative Grade Point Average?

Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) is a comprehensive summary of your overall academic performance and is calculated over the duration of your enrolment in a program.

It measures the academic performance of individual students in order to acknowledge excellence and determine recipients of Excellence Awards. For more information and the formula used by Western Sydney University to calculate the GPA, go to the Graduation policy.

What is a Term Grade Point Average?

Term Grade Point Average (GPA) is a snapshot of your academic performance for one specific period, such as a semester or quarter. It calculates the average of your grades for that term, giving you an idea of how well you’re doing in your current program.

A Students' academic progress is now assessed based on their overall Term Grade Point Average (GPA) following the official results release date in their most recent term of study.

What is a GPA Calculator?

A GPA calculator can help determine if you are eligible for scholarships, programs such as Honours, or admission to other universities. It can also be used to check your current GPA or determine your future GPA if you were to achieve certain grades.

For example, your grades might be a pass, credit, distinction or high distinction and so on. All grades, including fail grades, are given a numerical value and then those values are averaged which gives your GPA. Your Western Sydney University GPA is calculated on a seven point grading scale where 7 is the highest and 0 is the lowest achievement.

Why is my GPA different in MysR?

If your GPA is different in MySR than what you have calculated here, it may be because of previous subjects or academic credit that count towards your degree.

Your Grade Point Average (GPA)

Example of a GPA Calculation

You studied 4 units; 3 units were 10 credit points, and 1 unit was 40 credit points, so the total number of credit points studied is 70.

You received the following grades for your results:

  • Unit 1 (10 credit points) - High Distinction
  • Unit 2 (10 credit points) - Distinction
  • Unit 3 (10 credit points) - Fail
  • Unit 4 (40 credit points) - High Distinction

The GPA is worked out as follows:

[(10x7) + (10x6) + (10x0)) + (40x7)] / (10 + 10 + 10 + 40) = 5.857

This is how you would complete the GPA Calculator:

Your GPA is calculated as 5.857.
