New Colombo Plan Opportunities

The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.  The Australian Government wants study and work-based experiences in the Indo-Pacific to become a rite of passage for young Australian undergraduate students. Eligible students selected for an opportunity below will be supported by a $3000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grant  and may  be  eligible to receive a deferred OS-HELP loan valued up to $8,149 (conditions apply).

Seoul Study Tour (2 weeks)

Enterprise Innovation & Entrepreneurial Practice

Dates:  Sunday 5th - Saturday 18th January 2020 (returning Sunday 19th January)

The program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to embark on a 2-week study tour of the business start-up and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Seoul. Funded by the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan, the focus is on innovative business approaches. Students will engage with entrepreneurial business owners and managers to explore local attitudes and approaches to contemporary business practices under the guidance of an academic mentor from the School of Business. The study tour will be completed in conjunction with the capstone engagement unit in the undergraduate Business program 200568 Contemporary Management Issues.

Singapore Study Tour (2 weeks)

India Study Tour (2 weeks)

Dates: 27 June to 13 July 2020

This two-week tour will provide 28 Undergraduate business students with an opportunity to experience Advanced Experiential Learning and build their employability and networking skills. This tour will give them international experience, make them more job ready and help them grow in their profession through visits to Indian innovative businesses and institutions such as Bombay Stock Exchange Institute, Zoom Start India, Australian Consulate, Snapchat, Faurecia, Pune Venture Centre, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), Let’s Recycle-Waste management startup, InfiBeam Avenues and LendingKart

Vietnam Study Tour (2 weeks)

Dates: June/July 2020

The Vietnam mobility experience sees students immerse themselves in industry while gaining a greater appreciation of the importance of the Indo-Pacific region to Australia through a sixteen-day (for credit) program.  Research projects involving in class and field activities allow WSU students and Vietnamese students to participate in cultural exchange, often leading to the start of international networks.  Mobility partners offer in-depth insight into international business and culture through seminars, behind the scenes meetings and tours with social enterprises, businesses and universities.  The reciprocal relationship between countries is reinforced with students introducing the game of AFL football to Vietnamese students and donating sporting equipment to the host organisations.

Go Global Exchange Program

One of our cornerstone Go Global opportunities is the semester or year-long study opportunity, the Go Global Exchange Program. If you want to immerse yourself in another diverse culture (but getting the option to study units completely in English) then one or two sessions abroad as part of your Western degree could be perfect for you. To support the participation in overseas semester and year-long exchange, eligible students can receive an International Exchange Scholarship of AUD $1,750 and a deferred OS-HELP loan valued up to AUD $7,700.
