TATA Consultancy Services Engagement

$3000 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant Available

  • Program Dates: January to February 2020
  • Destination: Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai
  • Eligible students participating in this program will receive a $3000 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Grant.
  • Eligible students can receive OS-HELP up to $8,149
  • Available for variety of disciplines


This joint venture with Tata Consultancy Services gives 10 Western Sydney University students opportunity to engage in practical overseas experiences and become more attuned to global industry, community and workplace needs. This engagement will allow both students and industry partners a better access to skilled, well-rounded recruits, and both industry and students will have the opportunity to 'test the waters' before potential recruitment.

The opportunity is available for students from the following degrees: B Information Communication Technologies, B Information Systems, B Computer Science, B Entrepreneurship, B Cyber Security, B Business (Majoring in Marketing and HR) and B Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics).

Extra-curricular activities

  • Cultural excursions will be suggested by WSU and TCS.
  • Cultural awareness sessions will be held pre-departure and arrival in India

Project Learning Objective

  • Through this engagement students will learn about global and international engagement:
    • Develop a professional conduct
    • Learn about a variety of job roles
    • Lear about the new and emerging industry trends
    • Engage in industry based work operations
    • Learn how to respond to feedback and guidance in a work environment
    • Cultivate strong communication skills through face to face communication, attendance to meetings, presentations, report writing and team work activity
    • Learn about a different culture, habits and experiences
    • Gain a global perspective to industry trends
    • Experience work and life overseas


  • Hotel accommodation or longer term self-contained accommodation. WSU and TCS will collaborate to present options to students

Program Cost

  • Tata Consultancy Services will provide a stipend to the students. The intention is for the stipend to cover aspects such as:
    • Accommodation
    • Local transport
    • Cultural activity fees
    • Meals
  • You pay for (out of the granted NCP fund)
    • Flights
    • Visa
    • Personal expenses: varies
  • Eligible students selected for this opportunity will be supported by a $3,000 grant as part of the Federal Government's New Colombo Plan initiative.
  • During the program you will be covered by Western Sydney University's student travel insurance

Am I eligible for the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant?

  • This project has 10 x $3000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grants available
  • The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.
  • Each eligible student selected for this opportunity will be supported by a $3000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grant
  • To be eligible you must be:
    • an Australian citizen
    • enrolled in an undergraduate degree at Western Sydney University
    • be aged 18-28 years
    • must not have received a New Colombo Plan Mobility grant on a previous occasion
    • receive academic recognition for the experience
  • Note: The Government requires that 70% of participants in the program must be between the ages of 18 and 28. Therefore 30% of participants can be 29 and over. If you are over the age of 28, you are still encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest


  • You may be eligible for OS-HELP, a deferred HELP debt loan for undergraduate Australian citizens - loans up to $8,149 are available. Academic Approval is required; have completed 80 credit points of study, and have 10 credit points remaining on return. For further information on how to apply see OS-HELP

  • The university reserves the right to vary program fees in the event of changes in exchange rates or price rises made by partners or other suppliers. If the cost of any service increases due to exchange rate fluctuations, price increases, tax changes or any other reason, participants are required to pay the increase when notified or may cancel a program which may result in cancellation fees.

STEP 1: Register Your Interest

  • This opportunity can be undertaken by students with the aim to:
    • Undertake this engagement to collect data for the Emerging Trends in Information Systems Unit
    • Undertake this as a part of their internship towards the B. Engineering
    • Undertake this engagement as a part of the experience to learn about the industry engagements, different customs and cultures and international work environments.
  • To be considered for this opportunity, you need to have a cumulative GPA of 4 or above over your whole academic record to date and you will be required to answer the following questions and submit your Expression of Interest (opens in a new window) by TBA

STEP 2: Apply for Academic Approval

  • Discuss your preferred option with your Academic Course Adviser (ACA) or placement coordinator - visit your School website and see 'Contact'
  • To receive recognition for your overseas experience, it is important that you seek advice from your Academic Course Advisor and apply for academic approval at least 3 months prior to commencement. Find out how to apply for Academic Approval below: 

STEP 3: Apply for OS-HELP

  • You may be eligible for OS-HELP, a deferred HELP debt loan for undergraduate Australian citizens - loans of $4,000 or $8,149 are available. Academic Approval is required; have completed 80 credit points of study, and have 10 credit points remaining on return.
  • Note, depending on the program, some of the opportunities below provide a scholarship, tuition waivers, free or cheap accommodation etc.

STEP 4: Complete the 'Before I Go' Online Checklist
