Host University

The University of Seoul, established and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, has through its 100-year history produced the leaders at the forefront of our urban communities. It is consolidating its place as a world-renowned center for the urban sciences, spearheading comprehensive research on the broad range of issues in today's metropolitan cities.

International students have many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities as there are more than 50 student organisations available, such as theatre, Taekwondo and academic clubs. The Seoul Mates bring together international and local students for cultural exchange, social activities and travel.

This special opportunity is available for two Western Sydney University students.

What courses are available?

Most departments will offer several courses in English. check the Courses in English page for English-taught courses.Students interested in learning Korean-taught courses can peruse departments and classes through the 'Academics' tab on the university's main page. Specific course syllabus contains descriptions, syllabi, and the most recent semester's course listings. Students must have course flexibility, as registration for specific courses cannot be guaranteed.

Am I eligible for this experience?

To be eligible you must:
  • Be an Australian citizen;
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree at Western Sydney University;
  • Receive academic recognition for the experience;
  • You must have completed 80 credit points of study, and have 10 credit points remaining.
  • A minimum of GPA 3.5 out of 7

What type of accommodation will I be staying in?

On-Campus Dormitory: The housing price is for two people in one room, it is possible to accommodate dependents if required.  Visit University of Seoul's housing page for more information.

Costs and funding options

This is an Exchange Program opportunity available via ISEP. An exchange program is based on an official agreement between Western Sydney University and ISEP. You do not pay tuition fees to your host University but continue to pay their fees to Western Sydney University as usual (ie. upfront or through HECS).

You pay for the following costs:
  • ISEP Application fee USD$100
  • ISEP placement fee USD$325
  • ISEP Program fee AUD$4,500 per semester (accommodation and 19 meals per week included)
  • Flights: varies
  • Personal expenses: varies

During the program, you will be covered by Western Sydney University's student travel insurance.

This cost may be offset by the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant up to $7,000 and other sources of financial assistance such as OS-Help (loans of up to $8,149).

Am I eligible for the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant?

  • The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.
  • Each eligible student selected for this opportunity will be supported by up to $7,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grant.
  • To be eligible you must be:
    • an Australian citizen
    • enrolled in an undergraduate degree at Western Sydney University
    • be aged 18-28 years
    • must not have received a New Colombo Plan Mobility grant (semester long) on a previous occasion
    • receive academic recognition for the experience
  • Note: The Government requires that 70% of participants in the program must be between the ages of 18 and 28. Therefore 30% of participants can be 29 and over. If you are over the age of 28, you are still encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (currently under review).

What is OS-HELP?

You may be eligible for OS-HELP, a deferred HELP debt loan for undergraduate Australian citizens - loans of $4,000 or $8,149 are available. Academic Approval is required; have completed 80 credit points of study, and have 10 credit points remaining on return.

  • The university reserves the right to vary program fees in the event of changes in exchange rates or price rises made by partners or other suppliers. If the cost of any service increases due to exchange rate fluctuations, price increases, tax changes or any other reason, participants are required to pay the increase when notified or may cancel a program which may result in cancellation fees.
