William fled South Sudan as a refugee, arriving in Australia in late 2003. Settling in Western Sydney, William attended Evans Intensive English Centre and then Patrician Brothers College in Blacktown earning the role of School Captain and obtaining his high school Certificate in his final year in 2006.  Determined to fulfil his education dreams, William worked multiple jobs, mostly after hours, whilst completing high school and subsequently supporting himself through NSW TAFE and University studies.

William graduated from Western Sydney University’s School of Law in 2019 and was admitted as a lawyer in April 2021. In early 2018, he had begun working at Hall & Wilcox Law firm and was looking forward to a career as a legal practitioner.

William was a beloved brother, father and friend who dedicated himself to the service of others. He was a passionate advocate for the emerging communities, particularly amongst his local Sudanese community. William was the former chairperson of the Equatoria Community Association in NSW and co-founder and first Chairperson of the Federation of Equatoria Community in Australia (FECAA). In 2019, he shortly served as the deputy chairperson of South Sudanese Community Association but resigned due to his busy schedule.

(Equatoria Community is composed of 64 tribes who inhabit the Equatoria Region of South Sudan. Therefore, Equatoria community in Australia reflects all members of these tribes in Australia).

William was proud of Western Sydney University.

Like many of our students, he embodied the spirit that is Western, overcoming adversity to excel through education as a citizen scholar and to reach his full potential.

In William’s memory, we ask you to give as generously as possible to the William Orule Scholarship Fund.

A scholarship can be life changing. It allows a student to step back from fulltime work and focus on their studies and provides the confidence that someone believes in them.

Your donation will keep William’s legacy alive.

Thank you.

*100% of funds raised will go to the William Orule Memorial Fund in support of refugee students at Western Sydney University.

Donations over $2 are tax deductible – please seek independent tax advice according your indiviual circumstances.
