The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway Program is an alternative entry pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Whether you are working, unemployed, studying at TAFE, or coming straight from high school, this program is an option for you.
The Pathway Program will be delivered virtually with required assessments and an interview component completed online.
We accept applications throughout the year with assessment days scheduled in May (mid-year commencement), August (2023 commencement) and November (2023 commencement).

Assessment dates: Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May 2022 (for mid year 2022 commencement).
After you apply for the program, you will receive an email inviting you to confirm your participation four weeks prior to the assessment dates.
Note: you will need access to a computer and the internet to complete these assessments.
In order to help you prepare for your Literacy and Numeracy assessment, we have developed the useful resources below:
Western Sydney University requires the following documentation to be provided by those entering through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway Program by Census Date.
- A certified copy of your confirmation of identity from a registered Community Organisation (e.g. Land Council) with a common seal confirming a person to be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
If you are unable to provide the above, you will need to supply a self-declaration statutory declaration along with one of the following:
Supporting documentation in the form of a genealogy document (such as Linkup NSW)
- A letter of support using the Western Sydney University Community Confirmation Declaration form or a letter on official letterhead by a recognised community member or organisation (such as Aboriginal Medical Service, High School Principal, Aboriginal Education Consulting Group, Family and Community Services, Aboriginal Housing or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander incorporated corporation).

Day 1 includes an essay, comprehension assessment and an interview with an academic within your chosen area of study.
Day 2 includes a numeracy assessment for applicants who require mathematics skills in their university degree.

No. Applying via the program does not interfere with any UAC applications that you may have already lodged.
Approved witnesses include:
- Justices of the Peace (with a registration number)
- Full time teachers
- Police officers
Note: You, a family member or a member of staff at Western Sydney University cannot witness/ certify or recognise your confirmation declaration, even if you or they belong to one of the above categories listed.

Census date for Autumn Semester (start of year enrolment) is 8 April 2022.
Census date for Spring Semester (mid-year enrolment) is 31 August 2022.
A certified document is a copy of an original document that has been cited by a qualified person and confirmed as correct and legitimate. When you need a document to be certified you must have both the copy and original with you.
