Doctoral Completion Grants

The Doctoral Completion Grant provides a total stipend of $8,798 over a maximum period of six months. Funding is released in staged instalments across the grant period and is contingent on demonstrated progress and supervisory endorsement.

The scheme is specifically designed for candidates who are close to submission and able to complete on time (<4 years FTE).

To be eligible, candidates must domestic students enrolled in a doctoral program within SABEL (PhD, DCA, or EdD) and be in the final stage of candidature, with a clear and achievable pathway to submission within six months.

At the time of application, candidates must have an enrolment load between 2.5 and 3.5 EFTSL and have completed a substantial portion of their thesis (typically at least 60%).

All applications must be supported by the Principal Supervisor, who confirms both the candidate’s readiness and the feasibility of the proposed completion plan.

The grant is structured around a clear pathway to on-time (<4 years FTE) submission. Candidates are expected to develop a realistic Completion Plan in consultation with their supervisor, progress from a substantial draft to a full thesis draft, and complete revisions and submission within six months.

Progress is reviewed at key points, and payments are released only where milestone requirements are met.
