The Equity and Diversity training and education programs focus on informing staff and students of their equal opportunity rights and responsibilities and the promotion of inclusive practices. Equal Opportunity Online Training
In September 2018 we were pleased to launch the University’s new Equal Opportunity online staff development module.
The new module includes the latest advice on legal and policy obligations of all staff in relation to discrimination, harassment, and bullying across the University. Developed by the Talent and Leadership Development Team and the Office of Equity and Diversity, exclusively for Western staff, the new module also includes a segment tailored to those with supervisory and management roles, covering their additional responsibilities.
It is compulsory that every staff member completes the module on a biennial basis, and is now a mandatory part of Western’s New Staff Orientation program. This new version provides the University with the ability to track staff completion rates per School and Division, which will regularly be reported to the Executive Committee.
The University’s values of equity and inclusion are shared by many in the Western community, and we are committed to an institution free of discrimination, harassment and bullying.

2019 Diverse & Inclusive Workplaces: Professional Development Series
Diversity and inclusion are a part of the very character of Western. We are one of the most diverse local regions and universities in Australia. As an anchor institution in Greater Western Sydney and a place of transformative higher education, it’s critical that we understand and reflect the diversity that makes up our community. Doing so helps us build a vibrant and inclusive intellectual community, as envisaged by the Securing Success 2018 - 2020 Strategic Plan.
The University encourages all staff to learn more about creating an inclusive institution, where differences are valued and not an obstacle, success and equal opportunity are available regardless of background, and freedom from discrimination and harassment is actively built.
The Office of Equity & Diversity is presenting a series of professional development events focusing on creating equality, diversity and inclusion in Western workplaces. These opportunities are important for all staff, supervisors, and managers to:
- gain a current understanding of Western’s strategic objectives in this area;
- hear about how you can contribute to strategic efforts within your local workplace and harness the benefits of diversity and inclusion;
- find out more about contemporary best practice; and
- get to know your legal obligations and ways to prevent discrimination and harassment in your team.
