Mardi Gras 2020 imageRainbow Western is a collective which aims to provide a safe social space for our staff who self-identify as Lesbian, Gay/Genderqueer, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, Asexual, or otherwise sexuality- and/or gender-diverse (LGBTIQA+), and to facilitate peer-support and collaborations among its members.

Queer rooms

A Queer Room, maintained by The Queer Collective, is located on every campus. For the location of the Queer Room on your campus, go to the Equity and Diversity Queer Collective web page.

Gender neutral toilets

Many buildings on our campuses include a gender neutral and accessible toilet. This facility is available for all students and staff to use regardless of gender and/or disability.

Dress

The University is an inclusive space for all, including trans, gender diverse and non- binary staff. Staff are permitted to dress in a way that aligns with their gender identity.  It is expected that all staff will comply with University rules for wearing of uniforms and appropriate personal protective equipment where required and with the standards of dress applicable in your study or work unit.  If you have any concerns about dress requirements please contact the Equity and Diversity unit.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Western Sydney University is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all employees. As part of this commitment, the University recognises the need for staff to have access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to assist staff who are experiencing personal or work related problems. The University provides EAP services through AccessEAP. Access EAP can provide a counsellor who specialises in sexual or gender identity, or is a member of the LGBTIQ community at your request when registering.  The EAP services are aimed at assisting Western Sydney University staff and members of their immediate family by providing professional counselling services. This benefit is equally available to staff members and families with same sex partners.

Family and carers' responsibilities

The University's provisions and staff entitlements based on family and carers' responsibilities apply equally to staff in same sex partnerships and families, including same sex parents, and other family relationships based on same sex partnerships.

Travel Advice

Some staff will need to travel overseas as part of University business.  To assist with safe travel,  the Australian Government Smart Traveller website provides information and advice for LGBTIQ Australians who are planning to travel overseas.
