Livestock Team
A grazing operation is the core of the Hawkesbury Farm, with commercial cattle and sheep, and stud Angus and Limousin developing. The grazing operation demonstrates mainstream sustainability principles, including irrigation with recycled water, minimum tillage and application of composted poultry manure to enhance soil health, supporting a seasonal mixed pasture ecology of high performance grasses and legumes, and associated fodder conservation.
The stock are utilised by Animal Science and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security students with an interest in learning more about the cattle industry, with great success of both students and cattle at shows including Canberra, Camden, and Hawkesbury. As well as this, our students have been mentoring younger Western students and working with University of Sydney Veterinary students, undertaking work placement on the farm.
