Energy Consumption

'Energy' shown in our environmental performance data includes electricity, natural gas and fuels (such as diesel and gasoline).

Electricity

ELECTRICITY
Includes electricity from the grid from 100% renewable sources, as well as solar energy produced onsite.

Natural gas

NATURAL GAS
Used for heating, hot water and education activities.

Transport fuel

FUEL (petrol diesel, etc)
Includes diesel, unleaded petrol, ethanol, greases and lubricants used in stationary consumption (e.g. groundskeeping, farm operations and diesel generators) and transportation vehicles.

2024

A total of 225,531 gigajoules (GJ) (~62,669,974 KWH) of energy1 (under Scopes 1 and 2) was consumed2 across all campuses.

Renewable (76%)

  • 170,922 GJ from renewable sources including:
    • 166,366 GJ (97%) grid renewables
    • 4.556 GJ  (3%) generated from solar.

Non-renewable (24%)

  • 50,142 GJ (22 %) from natural gas
  • 447 GJ (<1 %) from non-renewable electricity
  • 4,021 GJ (1%) from fuel (petrol, diesel etc).

Energy: Includes electricity from the grid, electricity produced onsite from solar (Scope 2), natural gas from suppliers, transport fuel used in fleet  and stationary fuel used in groundskeeping and generators (Scope 1).

Consumption under Western Sydney University's operational control (i.e does not include consumption from downstream activities)
